You know, it's weird. Everyone is always slamming MS and Windows for how crap their products are.
I really haven't had big problems using windows for about 12+ years now. I've only once had a big windows crash (where I lost data) and only once did I get a badass virus.
Windows 95 was crap and 98 not much better, but since win98 SE I haven't had any problems through windows ME and now XP Pro.
XP Pro is pretty decent. I only have restart about once a week and I use it extensively running all my development applications including IIS and as a server for a small network. And the hardware underneath is not wonderfull as well - Athlon 800 with 256MB Ram
Maybe I'm just lucky...
If you look after Windows and you understand it's limitations, you won't have any problems with it.
The biggest problem with Windows is all the dumbass hackers out there exploiting it.
Originally posted by CliffLandinYeah, I have a crappy machine with RedHat on, but I don't use it much (which is bad, I really should use Linux more. Opensource IS a reality now and businesses are moving towards Linux a lot more nowadays).
Have you used any other O/S?
I also used Linux a lot while I was still studying, using Java, C++ and perl, but I just never got converted to it like a lot of my peers.
I do most of my work for small companies. They all use Windows, so I use Windows to write the apps for them.
Originally posted by pulse101Red Hat is the distribution, Linux is the O/S, and there are games that run natively and fine on RH. Unreal Tournament 2003 & 2004 both have Linux installers on the install CD/DVD and you can run, say, a P/III 700mHz with a crappy vid card instead of the minimum 1gHz that is required to play using windows.
thats coz red hat isnt an os its designed to run servers not play games
