Which is too bad, because I think nowhere like an endgame do you see the clear advantage of a single tempo, or of gaining the the opposition, etc.
1) Emmanual Lasker, world chess champion for 28 years, certainly thought quite highly of checkers.
2) Robert J Fischer, arguably the greatest chess player of all time, once continued play with nothing but a King; so I guess the greatest player in the world's advice is "make the other guy prove he can beat you." Of course he thought chess was life, an ...[text shortened]... y as good as you think.
Oh, hi guys. Just passing through on by way to the NCBI website....
BTW, Maggoteer, are you a biologist? Just curious, since you're going to NCBI.

Return from NCBI now I do. Many Genomes there, yes, very good.

Yes young Skywalker, Biologist I am.
I'm an ancient grizzled fool who for some reason gave up a pleasant an enjoyable life as a senior technician to foolishly chase a PhD. Currently playing with fruit flies and their nervous systems.
Where are you in NYC? I used to tech at the Skirball Institute (part of NYUMC). Loved those zebrafisheys....
Ah, as a fellow Michael, may I compliment you on a mighty fine name.😉
As a beginner/novice, my purpose in playing to the bitter end even in the face of obvious defeat is to learn the game. And there have been a few times when I was able to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. I am new here and do enjoy the site, so to you all, if we are in a game and it is getting boring to you, feel free to say so and I will concede to your wishes. Ratings mean nothing to me. Watching the game unfold before my eyes is inspiring, no matter who makes the great moves.
