I watched the thread A closed thread!!??? and wanted to post in it..............but I couldn't because it says 'thread is now closed'.
I understand that some offensive threads can be closed, but closing also non-offensive threads because someone says it's drivel sounds excessive to me:if so half of the forum threads (example : ghost forum sign in sheet) should be closed.
Even if something is drivel,it gives people the opportunity to meet in the forum................
There's no more freedom of posting on RHP? Is this censorship?who decides when a thread is drivel or not?
I want some answers.........

No surprise if this thread will be closed........

I sure hope not drivel drivel. This is a topic worth discussing if any, though please remember - mods are only people, and people are people are people are people. so they closed a thread - big dildilio

The next step would be to move this thread to the Debate forum.

I myself think they should have erased the original thread early before anyone posted in it... I was going to post similar stuff to the first couple posts... but figured the whole thread was being ignored and would be deleted.

New Forum??? The Drivel Forum????

I thought 'drivel forum' = 'longest thread in RHP history'?

They closed my thread! It was most certainly no drivel.Every time the mods encounter even the slightest hint of criticism they seem to go bananas.

I consider this a declaration of war! 😠

After watching 'ruben fine' thread I can say that's not the best of intellectual, but the question is the same : why did someone close threads when it's not a bothering topic?Drivel?

Ravello,

The ruben fine thread was closed, as has already been mentioned, because it had no purpose, no subject matter and was drivellous to the point of inappropriate. Drivel begets drivel - the possibility of replies in a similar vein to the first two posts, potentially about mutual masturbation, was something I wished to avoid. There is only so much time moderators can devote to the site and, where possible, we'd rather not spend that time removing posts that are inappropriate. I suggest that if you have a particular problem with the closure of that thread - that is not explained in this or any previous posting - you send me a personal message, upon receipt of which I'll be more than happy to discuss the matter further. If you feel improper moderator conduct was at hand then please send feedback to Chrismo/Russ.

Hmm,you'd rather devote your time removing appropriate posts then? And why does this have to be discussed in private? It's a matter of public concern.Besides, the problem was not the particular thread,I think we all agree that it was useless drivel. But just cause it's drivel and may potentionally develop into something more nasty should not be a reason to close it down, imo.

And,to Mr Rhymester, why was the subsequent thread closed?A joke?Just for kicks?Or,as you put it,a demonstration?I wonder what it demonstrates?

First off, I don't want anyone getting mad about mods. What rIme Master did was for humor... I am sure he didn't want to offend anyone. Humor!!!! A tad bit of a show of power, but let him play!

On the other hand......

If I were a mod at RHP and closed the first thread I would have posted:

“This thread is closed. Please move your thoughts to a new thread as the topic of this thread is not up to RHP standards.

The title of this thread:

'ruben fine: chess is afther-muder, mom-mating, and'

Is in conflict of the TOS due to language, and flame value. Bad spelling is also a black mark against this thread, and the topic is vague. The first post says nothing, and the second post by the creator says less and may be offensive to others.

Please let this post drift down the list; enjoy the other threads, or create a new one. PM me if you have an issue, but keep in mind this is not an adults only site.”

So I think this is a diplomacy and right to information debate... debate.....

agreed! and well said!
the TOS is a definitive guide for all of us, but the mods have the thankless job of enforcing it.
posting should be considered a privilege and our courtesy should be extended first to the mods!

An illogical and hopeless continuation, not to mention unfair and disrespectful. Please provide examples of my removal of appropriate posts.

Ravello asked the same question that you asked. I replied to both. If Ravello had further questions then I merely suggested he sent me a personal message or contacted Chrismo/Russ as my own opinion was that would lead to a) a speedier conclusion and b) wouldn't clog up the forums. Nowhere did I say this has to be discussed in private.

But just cause it's drivel and may potentionally develop into something more nasty should not be a reason to close it down, imo.
And that opinion has been noted, but quite frankly it is impossible to moderate the site catering precisely to each and every user's opinion on each and every occasion. Some would argue that all posts should be displayed, all threads left open, others are at the opposite end of the spectrum.

If you are having particular problems with a given moderator (or moderation of the site in general) then any action as a consequence of those problems is far more likely to occur from a) sending a message to a moderator, or b) sending a message to Chrismo and Russ.

All any moderator does is to try and do the correct thing at the right time. Often there is no correct thing. Often moderators will discuss between themselves the "best" and "fairest" course of action and sometimes those discussions will involve Chrismo and Russ.

To my mind there really are some more important things in life, things which are really worth going on the "warpath" about.

~Phlabby: My posting of the word "Closed" was more brief than I may otherwise have done for another thread. I, mistakenly as it seems to be turning out, thought it was fairly obvious why thread was being closed. Since the closing of threads is a fairly new feature I perhaps should have expounded slightly so as users know why the feature was used. I subsequently wrote in replies to Ravello and SirLoseALot what I guess I would have written had I been more verbose at the time.
