My favorite cat died today - wasted away by cancer - it was very sad.

When I set out to bury her I realized someone had stolen my only shovel, right from my driveway.

Why? That has to be the stupidest thing ever stolen. I had to go to Home Depot to get a new shovel just to bury my cat.
A possible answer is that the shovel was stolen because they could.

maybe it was the cat, who wanted to be cremated?

are you quite sure it was your shovel ?

Actually, yes.

Where I live (semi-rural New Hampshire) lots of people don't even lock their doors. I think you could leave your wallet on the front seat of an unlocked car most days and nobody would take it.

So - trying to understand how my shovel was taken -

Scenario one: someone on my street goes out to do some gardening, realizes he doesn't own ...[text shortened]... ake that guys shovel, that will really annoy him!" I can't see this as plausible either.
Scenario 2 doesn't seem that unreasonable. It could also have been taken and then given to some friend or relative, used to smash mailboxes or chop cactus (I guess you don't have cactus up there).

Maybe they buried it in your yard. That'd be ironic.

Are you sure you left the shovel on the driveway?

Have you looked everywhere for it? I bet it is in the last place you look.

I'm sure - I don't lose things. Besides I was just using it last week to spread gravel. It was on top of the gravel pile.

Or maybe someone couldn't find xyr own shovel, thought "I'll just borrow RookRAK's for a moment, I am sure he won't mind", and then forgot to bring it back?

Sorry about your cat. :'(

Thanks Noodles.

Maybe someone had to borrow it quickly to fight off the zombie next door. I think shovels are good weapons against zombies.

That makes sense! Maybe your shovel saved someone's life! Your shovel is a hero!

Of course it would be in the last place, why would he continue to look if he had found it? 😕

Kids? They don't own a lot of stuff and sometimes they like sharing a lot more than adults do. Involuntary sharing on your part, in this case.

My condoleances, sorry to hear about your cat.
