I'm headed across the pond in a month, and I'm looking at a netbook to do fun things play chess and take embarrassing pictures of myself holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa, wearing fanny packs, and using the English - German translator to ask where the nearest McDonald's is.
I was out shopping yesterday, and a kid working at Best Buy told me that because Europeans prefer a different flavor of electrons, Wifi isn't the same in Europe as it is in America. Is that true? It didn't make much sense to me, but today's kids are so much smarter than yesterday's kids (me), and this kid was extra smart because he worked at Best Buy. Can anybody talk to this, does this make sense?
Thanks.

The crack squad at the Best buy are obviously confusing Wireless routers and adapters.
Wireless routers can be set to different regions, and I believe this has something to do with the frequency the wireless interface uses - legal reasons I believe.
Your wireless adapter in your laptop doesn't care what frequency is used.
Like MontyMoose said - just make sure you have the correct power adapters as this is usually a bigger headache, especially if your transformer unit uses a 3 pronged plug.

But why do I need to double up on underwear? I did need to last month in Brazil (my job has me travelling quite a bit, and Rio is not nearly the choice destination it's made out to be). I - well, let's just say, American gut + Brazilian drinking water = 7 kilos lost in four days.
