I don't think it was to do with my CDROM drive. It worked ok and brought up the autorun to install the software. Maybe it didn't install it to the right place.
I think my router might be a bit dodgy as well, the network went down today, and only came back up when I re-confirmed the router's settings. 🙁
tech support. They showed me how to reset the router stuff:
In Xp anyway, you hit run with CMD, then in the new black window,
which should show C:\documents and settings\(some name)
then type netsh ^ (the ^ just means space) int ^ ip^reset enter
and netsh^routing^reset enter
netsh^firewall^reset enter
netsh^winsock^reset enter
After that the comp needs reboot and then when you hit the
explorer or mozilla it will probably come up with can't get online
or something but there is a button called connect, I hit that and
the net came up, a bit slow at first, it seems to be working its way
through the settings, then if you go out and come back in
it is back to its normal speed. The problem was going to the net
gave me a message saying I couldn't go online, email was dead too.
the above routine fixed all that.
