For argument's sake, what was the age of your first period?
Don't give specifics or any gory details. But as a straw poll, can we say 12-13 + is usual about average?
Can anyone say they experienced it younger, and if so at what age?
This is for argument's sake to see if a theory in debates works out. Will post link up later on. Cheers.

I've read that men produce a decreasing amount of sperm with each new generation and that soon humanity will die out for lack of ability to procreate.
Of course, we'll no doubt procreate using lab technology instead. 😀

Girls are becoming women at a much earlier age. Alot of talk has circulated in regards to a connection between the hormones being pumped in our food (cows, chickens ect.) with earlier development and premature menstration.
Another take on it has been that young girls now are of the healthiest generation ever. This gives them an evolutionary advantage in making reproduction a focal point.

Humanity will die out "soon"? I wouldn't worry just yet, global warming will have it's way with us long before sterility wipes us out.
Lead poisoning took out the Roman Empire; leaded (...and UN) gas will take out the American Empire

I read a study reported in an Australian newspaper saying that at the start of the 1900's the average age for girls was 16.5 years old on average. In the year 2000 it was 13.5.
Are we regressing as a species?
Menstruation stops for severe anorexics, and a better diet in the 20th C leads to earlier onset of periods.
So, there is some truth in the weight thing.

Girls in the U.S. these days are taller and heavier than they were 20 years ago. From the girls I see in 5th grade, I would say they are anywhere from 5' to 5' 4" and between 90 to 120 pounds. And they are only 11 years old. Wearing bras already and everything, geesh!

When I look back on my 5th grade class photo no girls were that size. All just a bunch of skinny little girls. I still say all the hormones they put into our meat products is bound to have side effets as well.

Some other factors could be better nutrition and improved health care.
It would be interesting to see if this trend is also true in the 3rd world countries where nutrition and health care has not improved. I'm guessing they are not seeing the same trend.
My 3rd grade boy (who is 8 years old) is 70 pounds already and he is small compared to the rest of the boys in the class. Some of the boys are already over 100 pounds (in 3rd grade).
