For argument's sake, what was the age of your first period?

Don't give specifics or any gory details. But as a straw poll, can we say 12-13 + is usual about average?

Can anyone say they experienced it younger, and if so at what age?

This is for argument's sake to see if a theory in debates works out. Will post link up later on. Cheers.

I do know that the average age that European girls start menstruating went up in age in the 20th century and since the early 80's it's been going down again.

There was an interesting article on this a couple of years ago in one of the Dutch papers.
Seemingly it's still up for grabs what the cause of this could be.

I have not got a clue. Is it a positive or negative thing, I wonder, health wise? I doubt they can change that much. Race to race might change things slightly.

Anyway, are there no women here who will answer 🙁
??

No one yet to say anything for a very premature development?

Trust him, he's a doctor:

http://pediatrics.about.com/cs/weeklyquestion/a/120501_ask.htm

(People tend not to divulge details of their sexual development to complete strangers on the Internet, sjeg).

"Puberty is considered early (precocious) if it occurs before the age of 8 years in girls and 9 years in boys." According to this person, 10 and a half is the average age for girls, which differs from the 12 and a half I read elsewhere.

Is there a doctor in the house?

I read a study reported in an Australian newspaper saying that at the start of the 1900's the average age for girls was 16.5 years old on average. In the year 2000 it was 13.5.
Are we regressing as a species?

No, but more crap reports are written every year.

I've read that men produce a decreasing amount of sperm with each new generation and that soon humanity will die out for lack of ability to procreate.

Of course, we'll no doubt procreate using lab technology instead. 😀

Really, well I've been producing an increasing amount since I have not yet seen any action since I arrived here. And what am I doing about it? Talking to you?

Bah and humbug.

Ciao!

The beginning of periods is triggered by the weight of the girl - once a certain weight has been reached, the body takes it as a sign of puberty.

As our nation are becoming heavier, it explains why the onset of periods is much earlier now than a century ago.

Absolutely true. Weight is the determining factor.

Around here, 5th grade is when some girls start, that makes them around 11 years old. Most of the girls in 5th grade are pretty big already, 120+ pounds.
