@Kewpie
correct again

I've just read the earliest posts in this thread and I don't think FMF intended us to provide cryptic clues, but I get a kick out of them. If anyone objects please say so and I'll desist.

Either, meteorologist's word for something that is easily said with only 4 letters.
Or, throwing it off a cliff.

Well, I guess that rules "Polar Vortex" out.

Thank you for posing such a difficult one!

Sorry, I thought it was so easy it'd go in minutes.
What common 4-letter word do you associate with weather reports?

Hmm, so it's not "Jim Cantore" (sorry, Kewpie, he is or was a weather-reporter star on this side of the planet). And it seems it couldn't be George Carlin, either.

Oh oh oh! (please let me check first)

precipitation

If that was correct, then next I will pose:

You were correct. Now you can give us the clue for your word. 😉

A Hitchcockian element.

(No, I don't mean plutonium -- it's just that I wasn't sure that either ruse or ploy would be accurate.)

Hurrah! That is correct. (After I posed that, I realized it might be an unfairly uncommon word.)

The best words for this thread are everyday ones 6 to 12 letters long, with a matching spelling in the other hemisphere and with 3 or more vowels. Clues need to be unambiguous. If you want to be cryptic there needs to be more than one component, e.g. Watchtower's clue could incorporate watch, tower, and JW. Obsolete or technical words aren't really suitable.

That's just my preference, feel free to object to any or all of it.

No objection from me -- it looks like you have been playing this game for over 10 years, so would have a good overview and sense of what would make it an approachable and inclusive challenge for everyone.

PUMPKIN?

Correct! I buy both green and orange pumpkins. Green's a better flavour but orange is easier to cut if you don't have a chainsaw in the kitchen.
