I have to say after watching this game yesterday that the ref was a joke and Liverpool should never of lost the game.

There were 3 disallowed goals of which 1 was a clear goal and they should have had a penalty as well.

Taking this into consideration i feel the so called gap between European and South American football is near enough equal and come the World Cup us Europeans have nothing to fear as what we may lack in ball tricks control etc with regards to the South Americans we more than make up for in our Technical ability.

I have the utmost respect for the very talented South Americans but this World Cup for me this time is wide open so Game On !!!

Except that the top Brazilians and Argentinians (with the exception of Tevez) play in Europe. Yet their leading club sides are still a match for ours.

Fair point but do really thing San Paulo outplayed Liverpool in the Final? I know they are 11th in their own league but i can only account for 2 occations they had us under pressure and one of those they scored from.

I don't know - I only saw the goal(s). Certainly one of Liverpool's disallowed efforts should have stood.

But I do think that the Brazilians in particular have a strength in depth that no other country can match.

Try this experiment: take anyone with an international cap out of the Sao Paulo side, then do the same with Liverpool.

Who would win then?

And Liverpool no doubt had several chances but the point is that they never finished any of them whereas San Paulo did! Games have nothing to do with who is the better side, but who plays better on the day, and on occasion it is not even about that...it is more about who has the luck on the day or that extra oppertunity. If you are a football fan as you claim to be, you should know this.

i only saw the second half, but of the 3 disallowed goals the whistle had gone before the ball had hit the net in at least two, if not all three of them. the keeper was fiddling with his lace when one went in...

but what a keeper! the commentators were telling of a brazillian who claimed the european clubs always bought the wrong brazilians. if they want a player who can garantee them 12 goals a season then they should get this keeper. appparently he takes penalties and free kicks rather well...

liverpool created lots of opportunaties, but really when it came down to the crunch they made an arse out of all of those opportunaties. for players of their level they really should be able to hit the goal more times and with more power during the game...

plus, the san paulo defence was awsome. during one free kick they all pushed forward, making the liverpool forwards all offside. 'twas rather humorus.

also, it was a good game to watch which is what counts for me...🙂

Yes i am a big football fan and I do think Brazil is the team to beat in the world cup but i still think their biggest weakness is their defence. As regards to the Club Chanmpionship yesterday i have no problem losing a game but to say we deserved to lose as we didnt finish well enough is a joke. As i said before we had 3 goals disallowed and a clean cut penalty so how did we not finish.

Apart from this my main point is i feel European football is technically stronger the any South American side but they are defo stronger than us Individually Skill wise

if the top 5 european and the top 5 south american clubs played in the same league with home and away matches 4 of the top 5 would be from europe, liverpool were just unlucky.

by my understanding, the championship has run twice and has been won both times by a brazilian team. also, liverpool won the champions league. they are, technically, the best team in europe.

just unlucky? the number of shots they missed...

you have to look at the fact that liverpool were lucky to be there, the 'goal' against chelsea, and the fact they only had three shots in the entire game against milan, they do say what 'goes around comes around'

Wikipedia also says this: "It was intended by FIFA to be a replacement for the Intercontinental Cup (also known as the Toyota Cup), which is contested annually in Tokyo, Japan by the champions of Europe and South America."

It's the same, except that some clubs from other contintents can also compete.
