I skimmed through and could not see the answer. Did it finally get answered on the Puzzlers forum?

Given the hints I would have guessed Mediator evolving to the profession of lawyer (as in the serpent’s attempt to mediate the whole apple thing between Adam and Eve and God)...

I didn’t see lawyer in the posts, but that would have been my guess.

My guess would have been woodworker...
but midwife is closer to the real thing...
assumes she got paid with food or trinklets for assisting...
