World's oldest profession?

This thread from 2010 will provide a few chuckles and a glimpse of some RHPers of the past:

I skimmed through and could not see the answer. Did it finally get answered on the Puzzlers forum?

Given the hints I would have guessed Mediator evolving to the profession of lawyer (as in the serpent’s attempt to mediate the whole apple thing between Adam and Eve and God)...

I didn’t see lawyer in the posts, but that would have been my guess.

but midwife is closer to the real thing...
