'you -COULD- resign.. I can't get a new game until this is finished so why to continue when you're a piece down :G'

This is the message my opponent sent me.

In fairness I am in a bad way, am a rook for pawn down, but it irks me to receive a mesage like this.

I agree that it isn't great to play on in a hopeless position, but telling your opponent he/she should resign?? Bad manners I think.

Anyway, as a NON SUBSCRIBER they can only play 6 games and want me to resign so they can play more...

it would annoy me as i have had a messege sent to me saying "why have you not resigned yet" and that annoyed me so much. to be honest if i was in your position i would carry on to play and tell them to subscribe.

I'm with purclecow and Russ on this one; no one should ever be forced to resign.

I will NEVER resign! I will fight tooth and claw until my enemies lie torn and bloody on the chess board, only a pile of bloody, greasy, stinky rags remain as I stand victorious, one bloody boot on the chest of my enemy, my ensign, bloody and tattered, proudly waving in the breeze, as I stand in the glow of the sunset, a laurel encircling my hair.............oh....uh.......did I say that out loud???? heh oops....Yay

I'd probably fall of my chair laughing.
'Kindly' (hehehe) point out to him/her that he/she can subscribe any time he/she likes if he/she wants to play more games.
And make it a very, very,VERY!! long game 😉

Try to be big and forget about it. I do not know how the rules deal with a player telling a player to resign. By rules I mean USCF and FIDE tournament rules. The rules my consider it player harassment. When I have a win and my opponent does not resign I just play on.

Dont worry about your opponent trying to get you to resign. pLay as you normally would and if he repeats his action you should try to drag the game out for as long as you possibly can, otherwise play on.

According to the USCF rulebook, the only time you should ever address your opponenet is to offer a draw or to resign. Any other reason, and your opponenet can complain about you to the director. So I would say this covers a player demanding that his opponenet resign.

keep right on to the (bitter) end. I win a lot of games but I shall never ask my opponent to resign.

If he wants to leave your current game, ask him why he does not resign rather than you 😛

you - COULD - resign?

Gosh, I think that kind of stinks.

I mean, I'm all for THEM resigning if they want to but you should not.

Because, for me (as I am often down pieces) I would use my position of being in the deficit to do some real learning (and I've been lucky enough to play some great folks who have pointed out chess tips, ways to look at the board strategically).

You have a chance to learn something here, to do some real work on your attacking and planning ahead. A game is a game.

While you still have pieces on the board, you have a chance to win. I'd pay extra strong attention to that game and really give them a run for their money.

I think it stinks that they "asked" you to resign.

Let them resign if they want to play someone else.

my view is only resign when u feel u have defo lost.

i played eddie dantes a few times and in the first game i felt i was beaten (which i was) so i resigned, the next thing i get a challenge from him and his message was why on earth did you resign when you still had pieces on the board and therefore a chance.

i would not drag it out just out of spite. just follow the game through to it natural conclusion.

If you think you're going to loose: its time to play for a draw. Whether by move repetition or stalemate, go for it. Resign only when all hope of even a draw has gone. Though in this particular situation (and its happened to me too), their utter rudeness necessitates playing on till the bitter end. And bitter it will be.
