I'm thinking about making the switch from Internet Explorer over to Firefox. Is this a good idea? Are there benefits to this procedure?

Yes. It's free, it's faster, it's not a virus magnet like explorer, and it has useful features like tabs etc.

I've been using it for many months now. Go for it!

lol

Are you kidding? Almost ANY alternative to IE is recommended.

I've had trouble with it.
It began to start multiple instances of itself in the background (ie, without the graphical user interface) The Task Manager showed it running three times.
So, I got rid of it because Mozilla refused to help me.

I found it didn't work properly on this site, though it's obviously ok for others...

Not all. The problem is usually the site's.

There seem to be conflicting answers about Firefox. Some say it's great, while others condemn it as a piece of crap. I think I'll give it a try, and if it doesn't work the way everyone says it should, I'll go back to IE.

Those with issues concerning alternative browsers tend to look for excuses for sticking with IE. Minor problems can usually be ironed out fairly easily.

Firefox is ONE popular alternative. You have no excuse for not trying others. For instance, there's also:

Netscape (Navigator)
Mozilla Suite (SeaMonkey)
Opera

And remember, by switching you also help to make the Internet a safer place for other users. Malicious software quickly propagates with IE's help...

I have had that problem too. But I say it's a small price to pay.

On the whole it was great for me. Than one day it wouldn't let me view any images on the site, most importantly the pieces on the board. I uninstalled and have been back to IE since then. Since mine and only a couple others are basically isolated, I suggest you try it out. You've got nothing to lose and if it doesn't happen to you, all the better. If it does, uninstall it. Note, the problem I had was only on this site.

I try not to read any. Unfortunately your latest post contained my name in it. Let's hope my luck isn't bad enough again.

Alright, I've made the switch and I am currently on this site using Firefox. I see no problems thus far, and the 'tab' option is quite convenient.
