This site is gradually moving to a paying site. As it should be,
considering the quality, both in terms of chess and community spirit,
that is offered. For some persons, this may be bad news. A student, a
senior, or anybody else that has difficulty to come up with the
subscription money at this moment.
There are people here that would love to support other fellow RHP
players, but who prefer to stay anonymous. A consideration that is
also valid for the person that is being sponsored. Nobody needs to
know that.
Therefor, I propose that people who think they have a valid reason,
would write a small note to the site owners (Russ) through the
feedback explaining the situation. They will treat this with due
discretion, of course. And on the other side, people who would want to
join this idea, can indicate that, so that an anonymous match, on a
first in/first out basis can be made. I don't know how many on either
side, but I think it is it's worth the shot, even for one.
Just a thought for Christmass.
Gilbert.

Nice idea, and I agree to a point - I'm sponsoring someone at the
moment (sort of).
BUT we're back to the problem of the web being anonimous... I was
happy to sponsor this individual because I had got to know him a little
through the forums & trust that his reasons are valid, but ANYONE
could write a letter saying they were a single mother with medical
expenses for a very ill child etc.
I know I'm being synical and probably spoiling the fun. Sorry.

there will be filtering - theI understand the heart of Gil's sugestion, and respect him all the
owners can refuse any dodgy dealers
more for making it. But my point still stands:
Hi, my name is Sarah, I'm a 17 year old single mother. I have made
some mistakes in my life and I'm trying to sort them out. I love your
site & chess gives me a chance to relax and get away from my daily
problems, if only or a while. I know $15 isn't a lot to many people, but
it would be food straight out of my sons mouth. Please concider me
for sponsorship as being a member would make a big difference to
my life,
Love
Sarah
Obviously, that's all bull... but if me knick was "singlemom" how would
you know that it wasn't real.
I don't want to be the party pooper, but I have this horrible need to
be
practical. Sponsorship might work, but I think it would have to be a
personal thing where you find, by casual chat, someone who you
personally believe. Imagine how annoyed you'd be if you sponsored
someone on C&R's recomendation who quit playing 2 weeks later
because they weren't really interested in the site...
I hope none of this causes offence - I'm just trying to give my point of
view and if I'm wrong please tell me,
Jon
