I'm not sure how this thing works. I have the original Xp Professional Cd along with the cd key, booklet etc...

I installed it on a computer using the cd key and everything was good. After it's done, its says do you want to activate windows(you get 30 days to do this). I clicked yes and it's asks for that 25 numbers again. I put the same 25 numbers in and it says something along the line:

This key has already been used or something like that.

I did use the same cd to install xp on this computer at least 3 times. But I though that as long as you have the original cd and cd key you can install, delete and re-install as long as you want?

If I want to get xp again how do I do it if it won't activate for me?

all you need to do is call customer service and let them know you have had to get a new computer.

Edit I meant reinstall not new computer.

I see in the booklet it says:

windows Xp Pro. uses the product activation system which allows you to install windows Xp on only one computer.

So if you have 2 computers, you have to get 2 Xp Cd's?

Technically, it's one licence per PC but close enough.

Either call up Microsoft Support or get in contact with a software pirate who can sell you a product key on the cheap.

Huh, that's pretty dumb.

I'm confused about this. Why did the key work when installing xp but it won't work for the activation?

Because they are separate numbers. Call in and then you go through a big rigamarole with a BUNCH of numbers before you activate. Like the golfer said, it's a bain in the putt🙂

Linux.

Right now there are more important things then buy new computers, hardware etc...

More important to pay back student loans then investing in computers when you don't have the money.

Just do what sonhouse says above - phone them, and tell them you have upgraded the hardware - don't say it's a different computer though or they will tell you to get another xp cd.
