ubuntu will send you a free installation disk, also some Linux magazines with DVD or CD-ROM included go for around $10 - $15 U.S.

if you get a live CD you won't even have to install it. just boot with the CD in the drive.

it's possible the local public library may have various Linux distributions available for checkout, on CD or DVD.
