The President of my chess club in SC once asked me..."If your
opponent would have a heart attack in the middle of a tournament
game would you notify the TD...or wait for his clock to run out first?"
I of course said I would get the TD...he said he would get the point
first.
Now that is crushing chess...also demonic.

You can' wait forever, of course. But, there's always a but... When an
opponent exceeds the time-limit I always wait for, let's say, one more
week. Because: you never know something unpleasant happened to
him/her: illness, family circumstances, server problems, computer-
crash... You name it. I think it's only just decent sports(wo)manship.
While I agree with this sympathetic approach...I give a reminder then
maybe wait a couple of days. Then adios amigo.
I would expect the same done to me. Give 'em a day or two then time
to grab your points and go.
I mean in a OTB tourney game if you are not at the board in an hour
of scheduled start time you lose...and if you get up from the board
and gone longr than 15 minutes your clock time...you lose.
So hey... a couple of days seems fair to me.
Just my thoughts...but then again..I could be wrong.

I agree with you Schliemaan, the time limit for a move is part of a
chess game. When your opponent gives you his queen very easily,
ask yourself "maybe he as some trouble... I'm a fair player, I won't
take his queen!" I'm sure you will never think like that! So when you
have send him a reminder and the next day he doesn't move, he
loses!
That's the rule!
Anyway, I'm not a pawnstar and I don't want to spend any game
space for someone who forgot to play.

Also, you can look up the persons public games and see if timing out
is a continuing theme with them. If so, take the victory, they ain't
serious anyway. You also can see last move times; if they are playing
other games and avoiding the drubbing you are giving them, maybe
that's another reason to take the time out. If you are polite, you
send them a reminder.
Or if they've played lots of games w/o ever timing out and all of a
sudden you see all their games paused, I'd (maybe) give them a
break - perhaps something beyond their control is keeping them from
the games; health, work, computers, etc.
