So are you? Because if you are we got just the right place for you: Club 39.
Just imagine all the throbbing bodies, all of that attraction in potential. Yes I'm talking about Newton's theory and all the kinky stuff that follows. Lagrangians, Hamiltonians and the super kinky Quantum Mechanics!!! Not to mention the more extreme hardcore modern theories.
Yeah boys and girls!, you know you want to be a part of this great orgy of ideas so just come along. We have a place for anybody who is willing to engage in respectful discussions.
Help us get the magical number of 20 members and be part of something great. Rumour has it that Scarlett Johansson will join our ranks so boys come along. And for the girls let me just tell you that Palynka is one of the boys. Just take a look at that pink straw...
Edit: Just to let you know what this fuss is all about Thread 100130

C'mon people... What do you prefer: to join this exquisite and highly selective club or to endure a periodical memorandum of mine reminding that we need at leats 20 members to get a forum running?
There, there...

I love maths, but I have never been much interested in physics. And I don't like "math". 😉
I never understood this whole dilemma about math/maths. I say and type because I believe in the unity of the subject matter. If I'd say maths it would seem like, at least to me, that there is a whole lot of different maths but there is one math.
Of course one can say but we have trigonometry, category theory, and so on and so on. But these are all different branches of the same subject matter, not different maths. Of course all of this fails if maths isn't really in the plural form.
Consider joining cause I intend to do a very serious club on the subject. So we'll have hardcore physics and hardcore math[s] 😉 😛 check out this http://www.phys.uu.nl/~thooft/theorist.html so you can have an idea of the flavor of the things we are aiming for.

That's nut[s]. 😠Maybe it's geekier, but maths is definitely nerdier.
Why don't you call "physics" "physic"? And would you say "mathematic"?
I also don't like club[s].
Well physics i know isn't a plural word it is just the form of the word, but on math I don't know if it is. If it is I prefer to say math but if it isn't I'll start to say and type maths. 😉 And I wouldn't say mathmatic given that I say maths. 😛 😉
As for clubs: this won't be a playing club, this would be a forum club. No in game shenanigans only thoughtful discussions would be generated. And then there is a study plan I have on mind. Just out of curiosity. how far are you in higher maths? And would you like (given the time of course) to deepen your knowledge of it?
Originally posted by NordlysNo, we wouldn't.

We don't say "physic" because we don't say "mathematic".
There's no reason to shorten the word physics.
We shorten mathematics to math. No reason to keep the "s". You shorten words with a cleaver, whacking off the end, not a scalpel, taking out only what you don't want. Do you shorten the word gasoline to "gase"?
Why don't you guys spell it "math's"? The apostrophe would indicate letters taken out, just like in contractions.
