No, we wouldn't.
We don't say "physic" because we don't say "mathematic".
There's no reason to shorten the word physics.
We shorten mathematics to math. No reason to keep the "s". You shorten words with a cleaver, whacking off the end, not a scalpel, taking out only what you don't want. Do you shorten the word gasoline to "gase"?
Why don't yo ...[text shortened]... "? The apostrophe would indicate letters taken out, just like in contractions.
Also its Maths not maths according to my headteacher!
I personally use Maths and Math and maths and math - I'm sure that doesnt cause any misunderstanding - as doesnt leaving out apostrophes.
