Of course. I was reading up on some UK registered charities and it was surprising how small a % of the funds collected actually go to the recipients. So you are correct to keep it local and secure.

Every organization, however charitable, expends a significant portion of its funds on internal management and the maintenance of itself as an organization. Tis the way of world, alas.
Consult Charity Navigator for info on where charity dollars are spent.

I see it as a good reason to give one's donations to smaller and perhaps more local charities rather than those who might spend too much on 'administering' the donations they get. I don't see how the word "miserly" applies.

I was once told that if everyone paid their taxes fairly and didn’t tolerate or encourage a cash-in-hand approach for work done that there would be enough money to support most of the charities in the UK without including any private donations?


I save it so that I can feel secure and safe come what may. I want my family to know we will never be without it.
