when I was growing up almost every high school had a chess club
this was when Bobby Fischer was a rising star

High schools in America and Europe are very different, saying that when I moved schools at 16 the new school did have a very small chess club, went once and put up a decent fight against the teacher, his name was tyler durden. Thought I could play the game until I joined rhp 🙈

I was co-founder of the chess club at my secondary school (I'd been playing since I was 10). Joined University Chess Club then joined my company chess club after that for 10 years. Played a bit for Finchley and Southgate. Did the Quick Play circuit around London & Essex for a while.

as a young kid, i learned from the newspaper
i got better with the ragtag chess club in high school
really got better in the us navy

it's been all downhill since

I have been in a chess club for about two years when I was 10 to 12

Joined the Women's Chess Club around 1978. At that time women weren't allowed to join chess clubs, which of course why a woman created that club.
My second club was RHP.

And here I met you, Kewpie. You taught me and you gave me confidence. Eventually our acquaintance led to real meeting here in Gothenburg and it was amazing. That is chess - anything might happen. 🙂

We'll do it again, but it's likely to be 2022. It'll be impossible to get plane seats in 2021.
