Like sundown mentioned above in his case, my first chess set was an old Vietnamese board with ivory-carved pieces. It was brought over by my family when we moved to the US; my older sister at that time was already an accomplished player. It was one of the few things we brought from Vietnam, but it meant a lot to us. It is still with us, but the woooden board and ivory pieces are so fragile that we rarely use it for play or practice.

My ex gave me a Chess set once way back when, I still have it. It's a beautiful little thing. About 8 inches square, oak case, felted and weighted brass board. The gold and silver plated pieces fit snugly into the fitted foam/felt inside the case.
I guess I could say that's my first "nice" chess set.

The first set i ever played on was ivory set that belongs to my dad. the pieces were quite small and to this day i still find the standard chess pieces way to big ๐Ÿ˜›

Along the chess set theme, not so long ago I had a choc chess set, set me back 47 pounds (grrrrs), i licked, stared and danced around it for weeks before gobbing it all up ๐Ÿ˜€

My first chess set was one I bought in Mexico. The pieces are made of Onyx and portray the Inca Indians vs the Spanish Couquistadores.

My first chess set WILL BE made of holographic pieces. (yeah, and when they start selling those, that's probably when i'll buy one)

I just use the computer and / or friend's sets to play in RL. I was gonna own a glass set ($25 bucks / 12pounds?) but i was hungry that day and I ate a $25 meal. Very delicious!

My first chess set was a wedding present to then husband. The board was grey n black glass and the crystal pieces were beautifully cut. He now has that set but I will be looking for a smaller version with a bit larger crystal pieces in it and I've found it but need to save up the money for it.๐Ÿ˜‰ plus, he'll be jealous when I have the handmade wooden box with a dragons head on it for carrying/storage:>
