it's too bad they don't have oil - then the US would go in and depose Mugabe, and there would be lucrative reconstruction contracts for everyone who went along with it...

sad thing is before Mugabe took over, Zimbabwe was second most self-proficient country, agriculturally speaking - producing 197% of the food it needed. What happened to the extra 97%? they sold it very cheaply to neighbouring countries. Now zimbabwe is producing less than 50% of the food it requires. So not only are zimbabweans suffering from Mugabe, but so are the neighbouring countries who can no longer purchase cheap, local food. I cannot believe that the only real sanctions taken against Mugabe so far has been to kick him out of the commonwealth - like he even cares. Most people i know would rather our government were involved in deposing Mugabe than Saddam - not that I am anti-war in iraq - just that i saw what was (and still is) going on in Zimbabwe as far worse/blatant than iraq

You cant talk sense to a nutcase like Bob anyway.

I couldnt agree with you more!Mbeki has been lethargic to put it mildly.Him and old Bob go way back.He owes Bob for all the assistance during the apartheid struggle. The same with Nujoma in Namibia,The Three Musketeers. They have been buddies for ages.
Originally posted by Dr. BrainYeah, I've heard some things about the Namibian president, but I didn't realise he was that close to Mugabe, or Mbeki

YES. I think it is sad that the English cricket team is considering playing in Zimbabwee. The world cup was bad enough.
The ICC basically want to blackmail England into playing with potential bankruptsy for the county sides unless the UK government bails them out.
England will not tour, and I doubt Austrailia will either.

The country might be up a creek without a paddle, but Zimbabwe gave Cameroon a run for their money in the African Nations Cup this afternoon though, and what a fantastic goal they scored at the end as well. just a shame about the five they conceded beforehand. The Algeria vs Egypt game looked, er, "interesting" as well. Glad I wasn't amongst that crowd...
