... and I can't get it started again. I thought a virus may have done it but I have done a full online scan through symantec and it came up clean. WHat else could prevent ZA from starting up?

This happened to me when I last upgraded. For some reason it won't start. So I threw my windows out, finally, and am now sitting comfortably in front of my linux computer (my job be damned). 😀

Has it done any automatic updates recently?

If you want my opinion, ZA is far from the best firewall around. There's plenty of free firewalls out there that are better (AVG for example) so I'd advise you to change it.

I've done a complete fresh install. It was running fine for a couple of days but now it's not having it anymore. Never had so many problems with my pC as I've had this last week. Everything seems to going wrong at once. I have AVG anti virus installed but I didn't realise they did a firewall too.

They do, but it's not for free. It cost quite a lot actually. Well, not compared to Norton, of course, but compared to free.

Well now I've tried the old 'uninstall reinstall' routine and I can't even get the *&^% to install again. Tells me that there it cannot find a DLL link.
Also, I've tried to go into my internet connection properties to enable the Windows built in firewall and it won't grant me access 'An unexpected error occured'.
I think I'm going to set fire to the B*&(&^
