Another question - clans and leagues

I thought that if someone had the shield icon next to their name then they only played league matches for that clan. Have I misunderstood?

I beat a player, angiardini, who had such an icon in the The Silent Majority clan homepage. However when I checked carefully I discovered that he was playing for the much weaker Marshalls of the Silent Majority in the 3 Day Timeout, 7 Day Timebank : Season 4 : Division 4 league.

Can someone point me to something which explains the clans / shields / leagues stuff properly?

I think he changed his shield after the matches started. As we are prepping for the next season of the 1/14 leagues.
