Is it legal to play (and beat) yourself (using a miriad of fake ID's) 200 odd times in the space of 1 day (using the same 2 move mate) in order to bump your ratings up high enough to enter a tournament?

Well, of course not.

Check out the user mossgroup - and a pawn star too - shame.

I just looked through his games, I'm sure Russ will get wind of this and ban him 😏

I wasn't the only who noticed the same thing !I beat him in the only our game (gameid393936) and he doesn't played like a 1500 as he is now:I saw his huge amount of games won in the same day and with same moves and thought myself:"how you can enjoy by increasing rating in this way?"
that's not playing chess...........

He "won" games by resignation even if no moves were made!

Dear Ravello,
just a very little hint for posting things about games in the forum: you can link them 🙂
click on the "Link to a game" (under the smilies) or just put the number between [gid ]393936[/gid] (without the space!) and you get a link like: Game 393936
have a nice day

😠 I defense of mossgroup; I have encouraged a group of players whom I now coach to join and become new members. I play them now on a regular basis. - Since I joined late last year I have really enjoyed the site and have recommended it for others - in the future I will have to ask my friends to use non rated games when we play. (FYI) I was once a member of USCF many years ago and have been playing since 1963 on and off - I had a rating of 2100+ many years ago and played by postcard worldwide - I encourage anyone who is interested to drop me a line or play a game soon - I do not cheat😏

You coach players and tell'em to resignate even if no moves were made?you don't cheat?
It's very hard to believe you....................evidence is under everyone's sight.

Another thing:if you were a 2100 player some years ago,why don't you play and beat easily your opponents instead of creating fake matches?
anyway, thanks to Thire for the hint.
