How are player ratings worked out?

If you only play low ranked players and keep winning, will you not get as much credit as if you beat a high ranked player?

Exactly. In fact, if you keep playing low ranked players all the time, your rating could start going down. Therefore it's always a good idea to play more difficult opponents.
