I would just like to re-state that many of us would like players to be matched up (placed in groups) randomly in tournaments. I believe many of us feel this is a better system.

Thanks guys.

Agreed. Hopefully if enough people say 'aye' then there's a chance of it happening.

Ok, ok, ok - I am getting the message 🙂

Currently, if you haven't worked it out, I assign the players to groups from top rating down - like dealing cards. This is why the top groups always have more players in them when the groups are uneven.

I will look at it in the near future.

Shouldn't it be done the way they do it in real tournaments? I don't think it's random. Or is it?

I thought the Swiss system was how they did the pairs for each round. 'Random' doesn't sound like what they do. I'm OK either way but I just thought I would throw this out for discussion. 😕

Russ,
If you want, I could make a suggested groups by random number generator, of course, I would withdraw from the tournament first!

In the next tournament, there will be 128 players.
Split them in 2 halfs, odds and evens.

Then assign everyone a two-digit number from 01-64.
Pull a sample with random number generator.
Look at the first two numbers, if between 01-64, place that player in the group 1, then continue until all players are placed in groups. Of course, the numbers 65-99 will be discarded also as well as the used up numbers!

Nothing at the moment.

I need to get a few more things out of the way - then I am going to go into what I call 'maintenance mode'.

This will be improving and fixing, rather than adding new features all the time.

By the time I have finished the clans code, I could probably do with a 'rest' period - so this maintenance period cannot come soon enough...

Russ,

If you want, I would like to do the pairing by using a random number generator in your future tournamants.
I would not mind to "show" the random number table that was used so everyone could see that it is done fairly!
You may get the two highest or the lowest ranked players to play each other in the first round!
I would prefer to have all players to be ranked in four groups and then to follow the same format as Wimbleton. Once the players who would meet each others has won their games, their could start the next round WITHOUT waiting for the rest of the players. This would make the tournaments faster.
Of course, I would not play in those tournament!!!!!

I love this site and the random pairing is the only flaw I see on this site!

Russ, let me try to use this in one tournament and see if you and the players like it.

Feel free to e-mail me if you or who else have some comments!

If you want to take it on, I definitely support you. I am not entering more tournaments for a while due to far to many games i have going. But if an experimental tournament was played with random pairing then I would definitely enter to show my support.
