I am provisionally ranked currently about p1454.

I have a game I am winning easily against a p1200. It is on time out. If I crack the skull then my ranking will go down.

Trying to understand post 20 game points system, I believe that I'll get some postiive points if I win after my 20th game.

    Am I right?
How long will a skull sit there for me to crack before the game is void?

It's always beneficial for your rating to win a game, doesn't matter if you crack the skull, win on time, or win by mate.

Click the skull! Click the skull!

In the provisional period your ranking is an average.

Given me 8 games so far - I have a ranking of 1447 which is from a total of 11,576 so far divided by 8.

    If I claim victory against a p1200 I get 1200+200 = 1400 added to my previous results divided by 9 = 12,976/9 = 1441

I know that after the first 20 results, you then get postive points for beating a lower ranked opponent even if not so many when they are lower ranked than you.

    FAQ

In tournaments the RHP computer comes along and clicks the skull for you. In regular games I think the skull just sits there until you do something. In any case over the period of 100's (or 1000's! ) of games, this one will matter little.

If it is a regular game the skull will remain until either you click it or your opponent moves.
If your opponent moves before you click the skull, the time out period is reset and the game continues as before.
If there is also a time bank, the time bank will not be reset.

In tournament games the skull is awarded automatically when your opponent uses all their time.

Also be aware that if your opponent decides to use vacation days, you will not be able to claim the skull until after the vacation days are over.

There are also times when the site administration may put 'skull' claims on hold because of technical difficulties with the site operation. They will usually make an announcement in the 'announcements' forum when this happens.

I hope this helped answer the last part of your question.

Was just wondering why I lost rating when I claimed a skull. Guess this answers it, thanks.

The sooner you get the "P" rating out of the way, the quicker your true rating will become apparent.

If you come off a P rating with a rating of say 1700 but are really closer to 1400 then when you start getting beaten by other 1400/1550 players you rating will plummet.

Better off with a lower rating coming off the P status and then building your rating up.

actually the skulls expire sometimes, when the powers that be just delete "old games" which makes sense for games in which both opponents have vanished.

I lost a nice skull collections last time (about 20 skulls 😉

ZERO day timeout. 21 day timebank. Only for the hardcore and vacation phobic.
Means 21 days to play ALL the moves.

    I don't think so.

With a zero days time out and 21 day time bank game, you only have 21 days to finish the whole game. The moment that it is your move, your time is being used up, just like a chess clock.

Just remember a skull is a skull.

Will your opponent take your skull when it appears if you leave his?

Look at your record 11 wins by timeout, no losses

Look at your opponents record 307 wins by timeout, 18 losses.
