I still don't understand how this time bank works. I have this opponent
"galaxy shield" who seems to be shielded all right, shielded from what
should be a time bank count down but for him at least, the time bank thing is dead. On one of our two games he hasn't moved since apr 28 and now its may 3, what, 5 days have gone by and his time bank clock
is stuck at 0.85 which is what it read on april 28. Shouldn't it have completely run out of time bank 7 day time and be actively eating into his remaining three day time? He should have only one day left to make a move if my idea of the time bank thing is correct,

If the move timeout is 7 days, and the time bank is 7 days, the time bank will not start reducing until the move time has elapsed.. so.. on day 8, the time bank will start decreasing.. Once GS makes a move, he then would have another 7 days to make a move before the time bank will decrease again.
yes, this has been an ongoing thing, over a month now. The time bank should have run out weeks ago but he makes a move and its as if the whole time bank thing has been bypassed somehow, like it gets turned off and then back on. Sometimes it counts down and others it sits there for a week and nothing happens. He should have lost that game on time weeks ago. Right now, you can look at the games with me and galaxy shield, one game his last move was 28 april and his time bank says 0.85 days almost all red so it seems to me if the time bank thing works then he should have starting on april 28, 3.85 days to move, he already sucked down his other 6 days to less than one by now so he should have had only 4 days max on 28 april to make a move and here it is 5 days later and the time bank reading is EXACTLY the same as it was on 28 april. Something is not right here.

From FAQ:
http://www.timeforchess.com/help/index.php?help=faq
"The timebank is a time control that is used in addition to the timeout time control. It is designed to make games quicker by allowing you to select a shorter timeout period that you may otherwise feel comfortable with.
The timebank is a bank of reserve time that can be dipped into throughout the game. Unlike the timeout period which gets reset after each move, the timebank period never gets restored.
Why bother with an extra time control?
Your preferred timeout period may be three days but you fear that you may be unexpectedly unable to move at some point so you choose a seven day timeout. With the timebank option, you can choose a three day timeout and still have some emergency cover for these occassional delays. A well chosen combination of timeout and timebank periods can make games move at the pace that suits you best.
Timebank Details
Each game has a timeout period, specified in days. If you do not move within this period you will start eating into your timebank period.
Like the timeout period, the timebank period is specified at the start of the game. Below is an example of the timebank in use:
Example:
* A game is started with a 3 day timeout period, and a 14 day timebank.
* White makes a move.
* Black then takes 3.5 days to make a move. Black has used the timeout period, and 12 hours of Black's timebank period has also been used. Black now has only 13.5 days timebank left for the rest of the game.
* White moves again within the 3 day timeout limit. White's timebank is unused.
* Black then takes 7 days to make the next move. Another 4 days has been taken from Black's timebank, leaving Black with 9.5 days of timebank.
* White moves again within the 3 day timeout limit. White's timebank is unused.
* Black now takes 13 days to move! Black is lucky his opponent did not claim the win because black only had 12.5 days to make the move (3 day timeout plus 9.5 days remaining timebank)
The remaining timebank period for both players in any game can be viewed graphically by clicking the 'info' link next to that game in the 'My Games' view."

3 days and 7 day bank but this game is a 7 day timeout and 7 day bank, thats why it never seems to move. good call rang
MIODude and rhb called it right as well. You just didn't seem to get what they were saying.

yeah, that one went right over my head, didn't look at the ground rules. Never noticed the time was 7 and 7 when 99% of the rest of the
games are 3 and 7. It had been driving me nuts seeing what looked like a logical inconsistancy! Wasn't worried about the game all that much but couldn't understand why there was this obvious differance! Thanks again, and Hi Galaxy, Personally I think you are nuts to be playing so many games, its like a permenant simul.
Originally posted by sonhouseYes, I'm going to be cutting down games. Hopefully by fall I'll be down below 70, I'll probably stay between 50-70, nice amount to keep me busy and still manage able. Going to take a while though.
