Greetings all, I started playing on this site during the Covid pandemic as a means to take up the slack time I had on on my hands until everything(body) calmed down. I immediately fell in love with the site, and have played hundreds of matches since, have made friends from around the world, and it has improved my chess skills.

Though rare, every once in a while I've run into somebody that ends up wasting my time because they suddenly find themselves losing to what they considered to be a lesser player (ratings can sometimes be deceiving), and they suddenly stop moving, and will make a move only when their timebank is about to expire. This is exasperating to me. I consider it to be a form of passive aggressiveness, and is rude and disrespectful behavior. I would never do this to any of my opponents. It takes up space in my que as well as wastes my time.

I currently have a player that's doing this to me, and as you can see below we have a match that is now over 100 days long with him only making 11 moves in that time period, (when I can look on his profile and see that he moves frequently everyday on the other games that he's playing). I've contacted him several times in respect to this to no avail. Is there anything else that I can I do other than suffering through this?

Thank you.

@Obieonekinobi

He is employing the time-honored strategy of hoping you get hit by a bus before you checkmate him. If it really bothers you, just resign the game and move on.

I would say your problem is the time controls you agreed to.

That could go for a year or better!!!

I would suggest shorter timeouts and timebank. I wouldn't agree to the aforementioned time controls unless of course I was play a sick friend.

@Obieonekinobi
It probably happens to all of us, and there isn't much you can do about it once the game is started.
Just be patient and play your other games, but keep an eye on that one.

Or as has been suggested, just resign the game and move on if it's really bothering you.

Also:
Closely check a new game offer before you start playing.
Are the time controls acceptable for you?
Check the opponents' profile and game history.
Does the opponent have many loses or wins due to time-out claiims?
Use the 'My Blocked Players' option in settings to prevent abuse from them, if needed.

I hope these suggestions help! πŸ™‚

Having seen Obie post three separate replies to three different posts; is it possible to reply to several posts in one go? eg to thank several posters for their replies and help without having to post to each of them separately. (I have had to do the same in the past).

I have seen people use @ but am not sure if that person gets tagged and a notification.

Maybe stop playing "long haul" tourneys?

Look, this is a correspondence site. This isn't a G/30 like Yahoo chess or something.

If you don't like someone playing within the move time limit, maybe play shorter games. As long as a player moves within the time limit, you really can't bitch.

It's amazingly rude to come to the forums and bitch about someone moving within the time constraints you agreed to.

Try playing some 3/7 for a start.

Agreeing to a 21/28 and then bitching about his 9-day move average (11 moves in 100 days) is incredibly rude. Trying to "name and shame" in the forums is even worse.

Not bitching... asking for advice on a subject I'm not overly familiar with. If you don't like it don't read it.

I do not think it is a matter of someone’s being a poor loser. Some people play huge numbers of games simultaneously. TexasNurse, for example, and Zorro the Fox. I honestly don’t know how they manage it, but I suppose they prioritize the games based on time controls, and those with long time controls will be played last.

@Great-Big-Stees
No big deal guys, (and gals). I've gotten enough feedback, and it has all (well most all) been very informing. I will, for sure start, start looking closer at my potential opponents time-out before engaging with them from now on
to avoid this in the future.
