I think it would be much easier if we changed the name to cookies or biscuits, Gold stars, or something. Too many newbies think rec whoring is gay. On second thought ...
Everyone is sooo funny but no one is really answering chesskid001. This is not the way to treat a newcomer.
A rec is (as said) a recommendation. If you like a certain posting and want to say so without acutally give a posting saying so. It's enough to recomend it as a good one, hence "to rec someone or something". A kind of RHP-jargon.
But to be able to do this you have to be a subscriber (I think), not only a member.
And for everyone - be gentle to newcomers. They are supposed to be subscribers too eventually and help Russ to make the site be even better than it is now.
I have been on this site for almost 2yrs and I didn't know what a rec was ! Why would I ? I know how to play chess (but to no great standard). It's not obvious to everyone. Be gentle.
