Additionally, we have two pictures (and probably at least one more to come) outside the competition, posted for viewing and discussion:
2 Guitars
In Daddy's Arms
(You can still add entries to this section if you want.)
Please don't vote for your own entries. Voting is obligatory for everybody who has entered this round, and it would be much appreciated if everybody who plans to enter future rounds would vote in this round as well. And of course any other votes are very welcome, too!
Comments and discussions are not only allowed, but encouraged right from the start. I would like everybody to say something about their favourite picture. Feel free to comment on other pictures as well. The names of the photographers will not be revealed until the voting is over.
Voting will close on Sunday, 16 July, 20 UT. The discussion can and should be continued after that, of course. This round will be followed by:
16. Words / Letters
17. Advanced Editing
18. Blue/Red/Yellow (people enter one picture per colour; voting is for each colour and an overall winner)
19. Movement/Motion
Further rounds will be decided on by vote (if we ever get around to it).
If you have questions, complaints or ideas, send me a PM. You can also contact me at rhpphotocomp@gmail.com
Enjoy!

Great round coming out of nowhere.
I have to say I'm suffering some withdrawals tonight. And somebody had to taunt me with some paraphernalia all over the place. =(
The World Needs Colour, Waiting and Chaud immediately stand out for me.
I would like a wee explanation for strings as well. Its an excellently abstract capture of a guitar, and I can only assume that "Home" means music for the taker.

One thing I have been wondering about is the title "In So Many Ways". I have no idea what that refers to. Quite likely it's something very obvious, and I am just blind.
There are quite a few entries where I have problems to see the connection with the subject of the round. That's a pity, because some of those are brilliant pictures. The fact that a picture is taken at home doesn't necessarily mean it fits the category in my opinion. What I am looking for is a picture which has some connection to the concept of "home", not just a location. Some of the pictures capture that very nicely.
Originally posted by NordlysI guess the taker is saying, "this is my home in so many ways", provides shelter, warmth, family, and much much more.

That's what I got from it anyway.
"That's my Home" is one I'm struggling to understand.

Or In So Many Ways That Big Building Reminds Me Of A Concept Of "Home"? 😉
I had struggled with the concept.. But In So Many Ways am glad it produced such a wide range of beautifully taken images.

I imagine a small animal living under that hat. 🙂 But I guess it could also mean that the photographer feels at home whenever xe has xyr hat with xym. A hat provides some protection, sort of a roof, and some familiarity, so why not?
Originally posted by NordlysThis is true, but I think how each of us connect to "home" differs greatly from person to person. For example, a picture of a cat is likely to have a stronger connection to "home" if you live with one. What I like is all the diverse ideas about "home" that come from the photos, even if they don't necessarily resonate with me, I can imagine that they do with the photographer. "Home" is a broad concept.

Originally posted by GatecrasherI basically agree, and the pictures which in my eyes fit the category really well are not necessarily pictures which represent anything I connect with "home". But it's not enough for me to see a nice picture and guess that this is something the photographer somehow connects with the concept of "home" because otherwise it wouldn't be in this round. For example, I could have sent in a picture of the aurora or the midnight sun. I can see that from my window, and it certainly is part of what makes me feel "home". But for other people, it would just look like a picture of the aurora or the midnight sun, something any tourist could have taken. The viewer can't see the "home" connection. Now if I'd take a picture where you can see the window I am looking through, for example, I think that would be different. To show concepts or connections in a picture is much more difficult than to show objects or phenomena. That's what made this round difficult for me.

Some initial thoughts...
2. Same House, New Home: Very nice concept, although I think it is a little adversely affected by the cut off fingers of the male's hand. It's a pity, as its a very good attempt.
15. Pinocchio's Dog: My first impression of this photo was that it was affected by an orange cast (probably due to using the wrong white balance). I cooled it down a bit with Picasa, and it looks much better. I did really like the concept once I got past the colour cast.
17. Ingredients for Happiness: Where's the chess board? 😉
18. The World Needs Colour: Absolutely blown away by this photo. It's taken at home, of a family member, doing a typical homely activity of drawing a home and family. Its really well balanced, the girls skirt blending in with the wall gives a real sense of austerity in comparison with the coloured section. Great concept and execution.
20. Waiting: I like this photo coupled with the Title and description. My gf thinks the teddy is evil looking. 🙂
