I think the recommendation system should be removed completely. You
hardly ever see any of the truly read-worthy, thought-provoking posts in the
recommended posts thread anyway. Short, sometimes clever, meaningless
insults seem to be the most popular posts to recommend for some reason.
Looking at the recommended posts list you'd think this place is full of
ignorant fools and... [old joke warning]oh, wait, that's right. It is![/old

A few months back, it used to show the total number of Rec's you had under where it shows your total 'Moves' on your forum profile. Unfortunately, a few people started a pointless argument about the rec system (as they saw it as the bane of all evil here), it all got out of hand and the admins removed the Total Rec Count from everyone's profile. A few of the hardcore complainers from each side of the argument still bang on about these days and threads like these pop up!
Actually the forums are much the same as ever, only less entertaining because people are drifting away and/or putting in less effort.
The only good thing about scrapping the rec system was that the "victory" finally quietened those who had whipped up a false and extremely boring controversy.
Predictably, the same spamming/mutual antipathies/insults etc. remain.
