It is called the Bird opening,not for novices however.

Works well in club-level tournaments because of shock value. If you are prepared with theory you can often catch your opponent knowing nothing and gain a large advantage with it. At high level in my database it gets

The Bird is the word. There a really old man at a club that I used to play at that would play the Bird every game. Every game I would play the From and I haven't won one yet. Although he is a former Ohio state champ, so he's no slouch. 🙂

I like seeing people playing f4 against me. I'm more than happy to play the from against it.

I dont know if i have played any other games with it on this site other than against tmetzler. I have a good record with it OTB, but i suppose it is harder to defend it in OTB games.
