Why do we have a 3 points for a win system here on RHP, when it,s a 1 point for a win in Grandmaster Tournaments? And would anyone else like that system implemented here?
Cheers
Steve

Interesting question - I entered RHP because it´s an interetsing site - and habituation let me live with the 3point rule. But: I think it would be better to have the 1 point rule here...

Yes, I agree. (Partially for a selfish reason. I often 'come in second' in tournaments by giving up draws.)

It was possibly brought in to encourage enterprising play.

I suppose if you went back through 'Site Ideas' you might find someone
putting forward the idea and it being accepted.

The guys that started the site knew more about soccer than chess.

1 point for a win and half for a draw is "just" a convention, matter of habbit.

In some early tournaments /London, maybe, I don't have time to google now/ it was 1/3rd for a draw.

"It is not fair that 2 draws are valued equally as 1 win" - that was the reason they introduced 3 pts in football (soccer), and it was often favourable suggestion by many GMs, also Fischer.

I like it, 3 pts for win, it punishes quick draws, favours attackers and those who play to the "naked Kings".
