I think you're right: 3. c4 c6
a: 4. cd5 cd5 5. Qb3 Nf6
b: 4. Qb3 Qc7 5. cd5 e6

either case white has no hope of advantage

Want to play it? 1.g4 d5 2. Bg2 Bxg4 3. c4 c6
Rated game and I take White ...
Just issue a challenge, no deviations and no setpieces.

I'd play 1...e5 probably. Are you talking from White's or from Black's perspective?

If I was White I probably wouldn't play the opening this way. I'd hold onto my g-Pawn with 2...h6 maybe. The objective would be to have that dagger to indirectly put pressure on the center by knocking the f6 Knight away later.

The opening's called the Grob (aka the Spike, Kolibri etc). Wildly unsound and the g-pawn means nothing in this equation. Mike Basman made it a feature of his play and won some very good games. Did I mention that 2. ... Bxg4 usually comes with a question mark (?). If not, I must have forgotten.

I'm looking forward to a game with Bob, if he takes it.

Does anyone want to play as white on a presetup game (whatever you call it) 1. g4 e5 2. f3 if you do just challenge me!

Particularly as he fell for exactly the same trick in Game 1217208 - is he a close relation of yours by any chance? 😕

I issued the challenge which was accepted and guess what? Bob deviates on move 2 and offers a draw.

that's weird I thought for some reason I was analyzing 2 ...c6 which allows white g5 or h3. I won't try to find out which one is better 2 ...c6 or 2 ...bg4 because we agreed on the opening moves, it is just a question of move order though. Sorry about that buff

After both quick losses, he called it quits even earlier in this game:
