More than that. You'd have to lose two instead of one, but if you lose and win one, you'll have to play a third.

No. Single elimination with 128 players is 7 rounds and double elimination would be 10 rounds. There's 64 boards ready in the tournament hall. The Winners bracket and the Losers bracket could be played at the same time.

    For example

Round 1: 128 in winners bracket
Round 2: 64 in winners and 64 in losers
Round 3: 32 in winners 64 in losers
Round 4: 16 in winners 48 in losers
    etc. etc.

There are 4 players left and the semi-finals have started.

Aronian v MVL and Wes So v Ding Liren.

Both classical games played today drawn.

Wes So missed a great chance to score a win but it was complicated.

One classical game, it tied then two 25 minutes rapid games,
if still drawn then 2 * 10 minute blitz if still tied then Armageddon.

    Losing semi-finalist get $50,000 2nd $90,000 winner $120,000.
winner and 2nd also get place in the 2018 Candidates.

This is one of the lines Wes So missed. There are other lines but this
one shows you better. It was OTB and too complicated to work out.
It either won gloriously or failed dismally.

I'm not too sure. If white had played Bg3

instead of Bh2 the g-file is closed to that Rg8+

If the Bishop had been on g3 here instead of h2. then Qh5+
