Black had several chances to grab the initiative and gain advantage by playing Nd4! (moves 5 and 6).
And the blunder that causes the loss of a piece was 9. ..Na5? With instead Be6 he would have been slightly behind in development only.
2. Qh5?? is an obvious blunder according to everyone...but what's really the best responses to:
1. e4 e5 2. Qh5??
I think that's what throws most people off. They aren't accustomed to having a queen behind the lines threatening their opening.
Really the strategy behind defending against this is simple: Attack the queen and develop...you should have an awesome advantage.
Here are two common lines:
1. e4 e5 2. Qh5? Nc6 3. Bc4 Qe7 4. Nc3 Nd4 5. Qd1 c6 6. Nf3 d6
1. e4 e5 2. Qh5? Nc6 3. Bc4 g6 4. Qf3 Nf6 5. Ne2 Na5 6. d3 d6
Or at least...that's how it should work in theory...the problem is...when you play these lines (even though they're correct)...you can't help but notice the board is even (but still in Black's favor). So...I don't know.
even though moving the queen out there is technically a Bad Move, it can be useful to catch people off guard - less experienced ppl will sometimes js try to chase the Q away with the pawn, and then u have their king pawn and rook.
if they do see what ur doing then u lsoe the initiative bt it dsnt matter that incredibly much, and u can move the queen to f3 which is quite a nice place to attck from.
Originally posted by martinbeaverI agree completely. ALWAYS assume that your opponent is going to make the best move back at you. If you don't, you will end up in big trouble...
it's a bad mindset to get into though, playing 'hope chess', hoping your opponent won't make the best response to your move.
o and in response to the somewhat condescending first comment from mephisto, i have played this opening many times with a decent success rate. i only recently started studying chess theory, bt have been playing since i was ickle. hence i use fairly odd tactics, and, it seems, get talked down to because of itny tactical disadvantages which are easily made up for in enjoyment (plus i won)

Qh5 should have been punished immediately, but you were playing a fish that didn't know what he was doing. Hardly a beautiful game.
Letsee: Quermyhte (1219) vs. tlai1992 (1750)
Doesn't look that way to me at all. Nice job Quermyhte, that's quite a win (ratings-wise).
I haven't read any chess books either, and all the "Chess Theory" that I know was either acquired here on RHP, or (mostly) from me playing around with the pieces and studying the positions.
Play whatever moves you want.

I really hate to see people try to defend 2. Qh5. It's so sad. And then he says to Bring it back to f3. If Black gets in Nd4, you have to move it again. This opening is terrible. I often play 2. Nf6!?, then when he takes the pawn Be7, followed by 0-0 and Nc6. This really boosts development because he played the opening like an idiot!
