Today I'm sharing an essay I've written to fulfill my high school's service learning requirement. It comprises my thoughts on teaching chess to groups of children in a manner I've done previously; I'm interested to know what you might add or any other thoughts you might have.

I think times have changed since you and I were first introduced to chess.
Children now are technology inspired and I think if you sit down with a group of youngsters with a board and try to explain the game they will quickly become bored.
Perhaps finding a suitable programme on the net and showing them on a big screen would be a better way to hold their attention.
Nevertheless full marks for trying.
Roma45 , a player on here has some experience with junior chess players.
I'm sure he'd be able and willing to give you some pointers.

Teaching Chess should be the same as teaching anything.
(I suspect your teachers will know this!)

Teach in the smallest possible steps.
Have some games after each step (for fun!)
And by "game" I do not mean a game of chess! but an instructive game.
For instance 3 pawns v 3 pawns on a 3x3 board then 4 v4 on a 4x4 board.
Then maybe 8v8 on a full board.
Then introduce the powerful king!
Et cetera.
