Alright, I'm currently trying to practice tactics so I try to keep all my games open. One can try and turn 1. e4 into a closed game with, for example, the french defense. But how do I open up the position if my opponent plays 1. d4?

Benoni or the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit should keep you busy for a few years. Just google those two openings. But make sure you have good maps before you go sailing through those treacherous waters.

EDIT: Here's a forum dedicated to D-pawn openings.
