So a lot of times I play far too many games at a time. Since I left the site and lost all of them on timeouts, my rating is dropped into oblivion. I've decided to limit myself to 6 games a time, maybe not resubscribing at some point. So with 6 games instead of somewhere between 20 and 70, I find that I am spending about as much time per day on those 6 as I was on the larger number. I've been making sure to think about each position carefully and not just make blitzish moves based on instinct. I've been typing these thoughts out and saving my thoughts for each game for later review and to keep myself honest about really thinking.
My question for you guys, how much do you think this will help my rating? It will of course take a lot longer to get it up to the point where I can tell what the effect was, but assuming I don't have time for any books or study, how much higher do you think my rating will top out at in a few months when it does, or will it not make a difference?
Well, I am certainly not a great player, but I think the more you dissect a position, and allow yourself to see as far ahead as possible, the better your chances can be. I understand what you mean about making blitz type moves on instinct. If I do that, I am usually disappointed in my play. The thought process is what attracts me to the game.
Originally posted by UmbrageOfSnowI made the same mistake (take a look at my profile) had over thirty games on the go so quit them all and started afresh, could not concentrate. Now I usually stick to ten games or less, I play better, make lass mistakes and enjoy the chess more. You will probably top your rating.
