I can't seem to get the hang of any of the 1.e5 openings as black and have decided to try out Alekhine's Defence. Instead of going through a bunch of GM-games, I will consult the 4 page chapter in my opening book and take a look at some RHP games that starts 1.e5 Nf6. I'd be happy if you would post any game you played or stumbled upon here on RHP, where Alekhine's Defence was played.
Thanks in advance!
Game 716691
IMO, starting with 1. ... Nf6 is a very aggressive statement of intent and the game could easily transform into a clash of personalities.

http://www.geocities.com/alekhine_gotw/
that site has games, theory and a forum where you can ask anything about this defense.Pretty neat ๐
Thre's also a high rated player here who uses the defense, but I can't think of his/her name right now....
And check out this too, lots of chase variation games, played right here on rhp:

Vengoropatubus: I've got the hang of the basic ideas for some of the more common openings like Rui Lopez, Sicilian etc., but the theory seems to be at least 15 moves deep for every variation and I always get lost somewhere along the line. In Alekhine's Defence I know my main purpose, try to lure white pawns forward and kill'em all, and the theory is not that deep. I think I'm (for the time being) losing more games with this opening than any other opening I play, but I have more fun doing it. Besides, I feel that I learn more about the dynamics of the game when I play 1...Nf6 than when I get entangled in one of the more popular openings. More often than not, my opponents seems to know as little about the theory of this opening as I do.
lucifershammer: Thanks for the game. First addition to my collection of Alekhine Defence-games, excluding my own of course. And yes, 1...Nf6 is just another way of saying "come get some!" isn't it?๐
SirLoseALot: Great link, thanks! Should've checked Wikipedia instead of google and I would have found it๐ I'll look at the chase tourney again, but people rarely wants to chase me...
Originally posted by Svin1I suppose, philosophically, the Alekhine's Defence shares the same "come and get some" ideology as the KID. In the game I posted (incidentally, my only Alekhine's on this site!) I relied on simple psychology - my opponent was known to be a hyper-aggressive player (he plays the KG as White), so I decided to sit tight and wait till he over-extended himself/blundered.

Anyone up for an unrated Alekhine game? And also to Svin1, I'm sorry about my post. I took your post as meaning that you just couldn't play well and wanted to get into a different sort of game hoping that suddenly your lacking understanding of tactics and strategy would go away. Sorry I misinterpereted that. I think your reason for taking Alekhine's defense and mine for starting the english are actually pretty close. Once you get good with alekhine's defense I would definately look into the english opening as white. It has a completely different dynamic and if you like Alekhine's defense I bet you'd like the english too.
Originally posted by VengoropatubusNo offense taken. I'm actually looking at the English right now and have had far better succes-rate with this than with Alekhine๐ I started all my 1/7 clan league games 1.c4 and I won a fair share of them.

I managed to dig up one Alekhine game that I've won Game 1016996, but it transposed early so it doesn't really count. I'm up for an unrated Alekhine game if you want.
Originally posted by Svin1I would recommend that you take up the French or Sicilian.

Here's one still in progress, but it's out of the opening so it should be helpful. i got him in a trap but it ended up being tougher than I thought.

Arrakis: I like the Alekhine even though it may not be the best starting point for a beginner like me. Some of the finer points may elude me, but this is true for every opening in the book. I'm not looking to have a razor sharp opening repertoire handy, just trying to have some fun games. Besides, below master level every opening is sound, right๐
Ark13: Thanks for the game link. I'll add it to my collection and hold the comments until it's finished.
