I don't know why there is an infusion of "rip-off threads" all of a sudden. These rip-off threads are a rip-off considering they are made by :-
- untitled players
- internet chess keyboard warriors
- w@nkers
Come back when you are on this page http://ratings.fide.com/toplist.phtml and have won an international tournament or two and tell us about a rip-off. It might look as if you haven't had too much to drink or sumthin.

So which one are you on that page?
- "All opening books are a rip off."
- "All opening trap books are a rip off."
Reading comprehension might not be your strong point Diophantus or you need to lay off the booze my friend.
Originally posted by enrico20Seems the comprehension problem is yours. I wasn't asking about rip off threads. So which one of the top players are you pretending to be?

On the subject of how many "rip off" threads I saw you starting, one, this one. I think this one counts double because it has "rip off" twice in the title.

For the benefit of the "mentally challenged", these are the threads in question :-

The idea that "xyz" books are a rip off is practically nonsense. If you take the philidor or lucena position as examples, those positions were documented hundreds of years ago. Yes documented! That's what books are folks.
If you take a book e.g. Practical Rook Endings by a certain Victor Korchnoi, he is passing on knowledge to you. Can you figure all that for yourself without needing a book?

I myself have reservations about them, because at my level guaranteed my opponents go out of book on move six, also players like greenpawn and others specialise is taking players out of book as early as they can or in playing less well known lines. How can their opening books help them in such circumstances? unless of course we understand the principles behind the opening.
It is true that there is a great variance in opinion about opening books and their merits or otherwise, perhaps we could discuss that, rather than getting stressed or getting personal.

Yes, you got it right - My thread was just a silly joke, some innocent humor. (Although I did use the occasion to actually ask a question about a book.)
We should all just relax now. I had coffee earlier - I may have some tea later in the day. 🙂
