The game isn't very interesting because your opponent defended poorly. Even before the sacrifice, he should repeat the position with ...Qd8 instead of ...Rc7? which is a pointless move.

8 N xc6 weak. Strengthens blacks centre. Better is 0-0 or Be3
11..........d5 or e5 would leave black at least equal
12..........Ba6. Bad. Nb6 or e5 would leave black equal
14...........Again - d5 or Nf6 leave black better
16 f4?Better Be3 or Ra-d1
18...........Q b6+ followed by Q x b2 would win
19 ..........R e7 is ugly but holds temporarily
20 ..........R a7 pointless
22 B g5? h5 should hold for black
22 B h6? Q d8 should hold
23 R x h7? B d4+ followed by Ne5 would hold for black
You should have played Q h3 or Q f3.

Thank you! I appreciate the compliment. After all, I'm usually taking punches most of the time, and a compliment is well appreciated. 🙂 I followed all the lines, even Nf8 for Black. Even then, a mate is inevitable. I did think the game showed exactly how the position - looking very innocent at first - could develop if proper psychic force was used. I think the rook sac was the only way in MY game.

Actually, Fritz says mate is inevitable if accepts or denies the sac.

Anyway, if it goes deeper, I wonder if Fritz would say what? I believe the whole point of this sac wasn't whether it was the PERFECT move. But, it was rather the deeper psychological blows since I was playing a 1300-1400 player. The best move isn't always the best move. Lasker knew it, and I felt the rook sac was a psychic blow at this point.

Fritz says what?! After your R x h7 black plays B d4+ - I sassume you reply K h1 and black then plays Ne5. There is no mate.

I think White is clearly better after Rxh7 (though it probably wasn't the best move strictly speaking) but there isn't a quick win if Black plays accurately.

At that point you had a won game so it doesn't really matter. However, your opponent clearly doesn't understand his opening. In almost all variations of the sicillain blacks dream is to play d5 with equality (or even an advantage). With Nxf6 you gift wrapped this and by having your bishop on c4 he can play it with tempo! Instead, he moves his knight away from the kingside (where you are building up your forces) then prceeds to play e5 (which doesn't seem to improve his position at all).

In essense, I see a game with one person significantly stronger than the other (200-300 points perhaps?) and the game bearing that out.

Actually, my Fritz agrees with yours. It claims Rxh7? is a poor move, and gives ...Bd4+ as the best possible refutation, and Qh3/f3 as the proper alternatives.

I don't believe he was using fritz. You can see Bd4+ and Ne5 without a program.
