I find that it has many variations to it. It also has a trap to it if you just a beginner, to fall for.

I play queen's gambit against under 1300 players. Don't know much about the theory behind it though.

Yes but you don't nessecarily get to win his rook, there is a way to avaios it. Instead of moving Qc7 he can either move Nc6 then take the knight then blobk check with his bishop or Bb7 the take the bishop and the move Nd7

Of course after Nc6 Qxc6+ Bd7 white still is a piece up and on his way to an easy game. I've watched people fall into this trap against me numerous times (from 5 0 blitz online to OTB tournament games).
I'm a QG player though at my level I see much more Indian type games than QGD or QGA.

QG is my favorite opening for white. It's solid but it is also a great opening for a fast win to beginners.

After d4 d5 c4 dxc4 e3 b5 a4 c6 axb5 cxb5 Qf3 Bd7 Qxa8 Nc6 white has Qxd8 trading queens and up a rook.
If Qd7 is played instead then the queen is stuck so to speak but cannot be attacked as the bishop is pinned and the queen and knight are unable to attack it. So white can go back to developing normally and take his time freeing the queen.
