Hi, everyone. I'm wondering if there are any unconventional ways to refute the Sicilian that are both uncommon and strong (for mid-teen rated players).

I don't mind so much if high-level chess theory proves it to be unsound.
I think the word "refutation" should be replaced with "ways to meet"- is that what you were really asking? "Refutation" is probably too strong a word in this context.

You're probably right, and yes, "ways to meet" is really what I was asking. I forget sometimes that chess terminology often has strict meaning.

after d6 or Nc6 ok, but after e6 ?
try it. Your opponent will play Nc6 more than likely

Did someone say my favourite opening: The Bird's Opening?

1. f4 c5 2. e4 Nc6 3. Nf3 g6 4. Nc3 Bg7 5. a3?!

I find the 3 Bb5+ lines most annoying. Strategies that revert to Closed Sicilians are expected but this line seems particulary hard to get active counterplay against.

And that why I play the Bb5 line - have been since '82 and scored very
well with it till it became very fashionable not to play 3.d4.

Every Sicilian player I know hates it when why White does not play 3,d4.
You can see their shoulders slump as reams of theory disappear infront
of their eyes.

Black is playing an English a tempo down.
