I have to admit seeing a top GM vs an amateur is fun to watch. Sometimes their moves will really come from out of nowhere. Other times, the GM seemingly just sits there with an even looking move playing solidly, and then all of a sudden the other side is dead lost with no real blunder to show for it. There should be more books of open tournaments where you play the role of the top GM and try to exploit the amateur's mistakes. One of my favorite little books/pamplets is on the U.S. Open where Korchnoi joined late. Apparently, he was over here to play Kasparov, and the plans fell through. He just entered the open instead. If I remember correctly Round 1 was against a 1700 USCF! and Round 2 was against a 1900! These guys must have had the times of their lives.
