I've taken a long break from chess and recently started playing again on Yahoo. It's apparent that I lost a good amount of my skill, between 200-400 points worth 🙁
But ironically, my playing got weaker and I managed my fist smothered mate! It was against a low rated opponent, but it's still a first.
If someone wouldn't mind converting this to PGN format I would appreciate it. These moves were emailed to me from Yahoo.
Just goes to show, it isn't how good you are that matters. It matters how you compare to the person you are playing.
Of course a bit of luck helps too. Congrats on the checkmate! I've had one of those too. I was black playing the French too. That queen bishop battering ram really sets up that checkmate.
I knew I had this somewhere. Could recall the game but not when.
It was Bells Christmas Lighting Tournament from 2000 which I won with 12/12 😏
My notes show Chandler 12 pts. Austin & Vangello 10 pts, Dimitriv 8 pts. etc etc...
(etc and etc were punters who happened to be in the bar or a few players
from Bells 4....Ruxton & Condie who played for Bells 1? I never told them
it was on...I want to win things.)
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Bc5 4. Nxe5 Nxe5 5. d4 Bxd4 6. Qxd4 Qf6 {Threatening 7...Nf3+ winning the Queen, a trap that repeats itself at the end of the game.} 7. Nb5 Kd8 8. Qc5 {I threaten mate in one. Something I do later on and miss....well to be honest not played.} 8... Nh6 9. Qxc7+ Ke8 10. Nd6+ Kf8 11. Nxc8 Nhg4 12. Bf4 Qxf4 {He cannot take thi. Note he is again threatening to win my Queen with Nd3+. I of course have mate in one. (Qd8) But I spotted whilst waiting for him to move.} 13. Qd6+ Kg8 14. Ne7+ Kf8 15. Ng6+ Kg8 16. Qf8+ Rxf8 17. Ne7 {Am I good or am I good. I don't need Bishops and Rooks, all I need is a Knight.}
