I met this guy who has been playing for a month...he has already drawn with a GM..CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!???
Perhaps the GM let him draw.
Was it a simul? If a GM is playing 300 people some losses and draws are inevitable.
How after only a month did he find a GM to play? In 40 years of playing chess I have only played 6 GMs and 4 of those were in simuls. The other 2 were WGMs in reasonably early rounds of open tournaments.
Originally posted by Dragon Fireit was one on one and this particular GM owns the chess site chesshere.com and no I am pretty sure that the GM didn't let him draw.

And Isn't Recuvic a GM I am sure he would gladly play you.
So can he beat you now?
However unlikely it seems, it is theoretically possible that one of the worlds "potentially" best chess players - a potential chess genius - has never played the game before and you've just introduced him. Just as the worlds fastest runner may never have entered a running competition so no one knows about them. Even still as there is so much to learn in chess the rise from complete novice to being able to draw a GM in a month is something that'd have to be seen to be believed. It just doesn't seem to be credible - even if he is a genius.
It would be great to have some more evidence about your friends abilities as all the obvious questions as to how you could be mistaken spring to mind; was it a GM playing and trying to win, could he repeat the performance, is he trying to hoax you, are you trying to hoax us etc. etc. etc.
Originally posted by tomtom232No, I can't believe it. No way, unless the GM was just screwing around and said "Oh, call it a draw" because he was playing a total suck and wanted to cut it short. I can believe that.

Originally posted by MahoutThis GM isn't any super GM in fact after he got his GM status I think his rating slipped back to the 2400s but I still see your point...I can hardly believe it myself and I doubt that he can routinely draw GMs in fact he lost to this particular GM many times before finally drawing with him...and yes he can beat me every time now pretty convincingly too i might add
